Judy Jaussaud's Black Satin (Matte Paint)

Postby judyj » Thu Jan 01, 2015 2:47 pm

Judy Jaussaud and Mary Gosden are pleased to announce that Judy Jaussaud’s Black Satin is now available for purchase from Mary Gosden Studio. This is a mutual decision for Judy and Mary. The same fabulous product, same name, just available from Mary. Black Satin is the most smooth and the darkest black matte paint on the market. Judy has sold it and used it for years, and Mary has been using it for a long time as well. Since it is a well known product in the name of Judy Jaussaud’s Black Satin, both Judy and Mary want to keep the name the same. So, the same fabulous product, just now available from Mary Gosden Studio.
For more information, please email: gosdart@aol.com
go to website: www.marygodenstudio.com
or private message Mary Gosden on FaceBook. Thank you all for your patronage, both past and future!!
Happy Painting!! Mary Gosden and Judy Jaussaud

Judy has primarily used Black Satin (Matte China Paint) for backgrounds, special interest inserts and for penwork.

Black Satin penwork: Believe it or not, I was doing work like this long before Zentangle was cool! I call them Judy Doodles! This is Black Satin penwork on a 6" tile.

IMG_1591.JPG

This 4" tile has been done entirely in penwork, using Black Satin for the penning, which eliminates any shine or glare on the design lines. The tile has a semi-matte finish.

This is a box lid- 3 fires. 1) China painted floral/leaves. 2) white enamel dots, liquid bright gold outlining. 3) Black Satin background applied heavily with a pointed brush.

IMG_1593.JPG

This pendant has been painted and fired first with Roman Gold, then burnished and covered with Black Satin, and I used a sponge to get the mottled appearance, followed by a few swipes with a wipe out tool and fired again.

The vase was painted with regular china paints (ruby, taupe and yellow brown), then embellished with Black Satin leaves, handles, rim and vertical trim.

Mary Gosden uses Black Satin as a very dark and dull contrast to lustre and metals, like liquid bright gold, platinum and copper lustre. Here are some examples:

These three plates have a satin glaze (matte). The black satin is one fire.

Detail of border plate clockworks: Black Satin Numerals and details, the rest is LBG, copper lustre and platinum.

Mary is adding Black Satin for deep, dark shadows on top of fired matte colors.

Clock "face" with 3D mask: All done on bisque, everything black is Black Satin.

Porcelain canvas cube and panels. The cube is (6) two" squares, painted individually and glued together. The Black Satin is all the darkest sections. The two standing panels are 4" squares. The sculpture rests on a glass mirror.
