Marine Corps Birthday

Postby beverly stone » Thu Nov 10, 2011 11:52 pm

Today is the 236th Marine Corps Birthday........... a remembered toast delivered in 1978 at Camp LeJeune ...........

In 1978 at the 203rd Marine Corps Birthday Ball, Gen Louis H. Wilson, Commandant of the Marine Corps, delivered the following toast at the Camp LeJeune dinner. We have all heard about it, but it may have been a while since we all last thought about it. His words brought the house down. In honor of all those Marines and FMF corpsmen who have served, here's to you and raise your glasses high...

General Wilson Toast

THE WONDERFUL LOVE OF A BEAUTIFUL MAID,
THE LOVE OF A STAUNCH TRUE MAN,
THE LOVE OF A BABY UNAFRAID,
HAVE EXISTED SINCE TIME BEGAN.

BUT THE GREATEST OF LOVES,
THE QUINTESSENCE OF LOVES,
EVEN GREATER THAN THAT OF A MOTHER,
IS THE TENDER, PASSIONATE, INFINITE LOVE,
OF ONE DRUNKEN MARINE FOR ANOTHER

SEMPER FIDELIS
