Once Upon A Summer's Day

Once Upon A Summer's Day

Postby Elizabeth » Fri Feb 11, 2011 5:57 am

Just a small piece with straight china paint ... Have been working on shells on canvas and on china - this is the latest piece. Regards, Elizabeth PS There is a poem to go with this - hence the title. PPS Have also been experimenting with border and edges as an alternative to precious metals in view of the recent price rises!

Your shells are beautifully painted and I like the border idea (good thrift sense). I recognise the piece too :). Well done.

Thanks Lynn and Marion! Need to check on firing the item - it seemed to be glazed on the foot and has chipped in a couple of places there? How should I have stilted it Marion? Regards, Elizabeth

Thanks for looking, Christine. Am posting the poem that fed off all the shell pics I have been painting - others are on canvas - but here is the poem:

ONCE UPON A SUMMER’S DAY
I walked along the beach.
I paused, breathed in the seaweed air
As deep as I could reach.

I gazed upon the sea and sky,
And heard the oyster catchers’ cry.
I watched the ripples on the sea
That grew larger as they got to me.

I saw the swell, the surge, the spray,
That recurred in a hypnotic way.

Then a breaking wave came as if to greet ,
And curled a blessing, around my feet.

And before it slipped away once more,
Left me this Sculpture upon the shore
