Elizabeth Crabtree was the first to grab a watercolour brush and start painting when I posted the initial photos and now Elizabeth is starting a piece in oil paint. This is the first stage (it is actually very textured and next time I will take close up shots!

Elizabeth ,
I LOVE IT !!! Cant wait to see the close up of it .. This is a gorgeous piece...
Ill be posting my version pretty soon..
I decided to make porcelain shapes which I have now lustered... I just have to add some gold on the edges... and then they are designed to be necklaces with beads strung through the center of the wave..
Ill post the pieces as soon as I get the gold on them tho since who knows how long it will take for me to finish the beading..

This has been a fun challenge so far.. Christine , thanks for finding the photos. Its relaly greta to see how we all have a different take on things.. Hope more of you join in ...

Again , there is NO time limit on this .. Just pick one of the photos and let it inspire you ... ANY medium ....

What I really liked about this as a challenge it is totally different subject matter to the usual painting challenges, there is such a lot of scope to come up with something different and exciting, so come on everyone get designing!!! it's not a competition it's just about pushing yourself

I love your bowl Jill. A great effect, then lends itself to the challenge. Looks just like swirling surf.

OK .. FINALLY ... here is my contribution to the challenge:

I started off making two different versions of a wave form in porcelain ...

The porcelain was rolled, hand-formed and then clear glazed and fired to cone 6...

I then added lusters and dispersed them with dispersing fluid to make the patterns, sprinkled in a little dry metallic gold paint into the wet luster ,fired again to cone 015, then I added a little liquid bright gold to the edges.

I eventually plan to string these up with stands of beads to make necklaces.. The beads in both cases will run through the center of the " wave".
ILl post pix of that when Im finished...

Wave 1:

wave3.jpg

with the luster added: I used carmine, turquoise and violet with mother of pearl on the top edges...( the colors are much prettier in person)
It also has a glass bead and natural pearl dangle

This is with the luster added: I used turquoise, violet and emerald..with mother of pearl on the top

This is both pieces with an idea of what the beading will look like :
