VELIUM-HOW I APPLY IT FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Postby Penny Nangle » Thu Dec 12, 2013 9:22 am

Question was:...Velium....How to use it...

One way I have used Velium is to put either Luster or Liquid bright gold over it... Especially when painting a piece with a bit of shine to iT for the Holidays...

This is a Christmas Poinsetta tray with velium/and liquid bright gold trim on it.

Here is a Christmas Apple plate I painted with the Velium and Liquid bright gold trim on it..
I painted the velium with no wipe outs and just added dots of raised base and put gold over it.

Procedure:
Put your design on with a permanent marker..
Mixed your velium with open medium to pudding consistency. the colored won't matter under gold.

Paint on the velium...Do not use the velium sparingly over the design
and then use a piece of silk over cotton and( lightly ) pounce to smooth out the brush strokes, not taking the velium off.
Wipe out your design with the soft red rubber tip wipe out tool... Look to make sure you have a clean wipe out or the residue that is left on the wipe out will not shine..You will see streaks.

Fire the wet velium at 017 and DO NOT SAND.
Next you are ready to apply at least 2 fires of liquid bright gold. AT 017

Have a Great CHRISTMAS....Penny Nangle in Indy
