Jewels : colored faceted stones & diamonds,pearls,gold chain

After several requests for how to paint jewels, bertie Stephens sent this:
;thanks; Bertie!

Bertie says:
"Please note that I do use more than 3 shades of color because that is what I like to do. These are basically the color that Peter ( Faust ) uses when painting. The photo is the one I did with Peter.

Regarding the gem studies, just want to add, i have 3 values listed under each color of gemstones but I usually use more shades because I like it. You can use as many different values as you want to, that is your choice.

You can adapt these studies to your own liking. I go to Half Price Book Stores and also look in magazines and catalogs for photos of jewelry for studies. You will be amazed at the different colors and shades. Hope that these studies will help you some. Enjoy
Bertie"

Thank you Bertie AND Marci! I have tried to do jewels and never thought mine looked very good...in fact I always wipe them off and never fire them! I'll give it another go with your instructions!
Thanks again! ;thanks;

Thank you Bertie for sharing this lesson! Your did a wonderful job painting your examples. I especially admire the beautiful jewels other artists include in their portraits. One of these days I will want to do some detailed jewels in a portrait and so nice to know where I can find a lesson to help me. Thank you Marci for taking the time and effort to post Bertie's lesson.
